Community Solar in Weld County
Weld County, Colorado
Community Solar
Three new community solar projects are being proposed in Weld County. These projects will provide the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy to those who do not own their roof or do not want a solar array on their property. The clean energy produced by these projects (PS 33, 35, and 36) will be 100% dedicated to low-income customers in Colorado.

Our Process
How Community Solar Works
Community solar is an option for anyone to gain economic and environmental benefits of solar energy without having to invest in or install a solar array on your property. The solar project is local yet offsite and connects directly to the local utility. Local organizations and residents subscribe to the community solar project and receive credits off of their monthly utility bill for participation in the program.
These projects are not expected to impact cultural activities, archaeological, or natural resources. However, we welcome comments from residents in the surrounding communities.

Frequently Asked Questions
The solar panels will be less than 8’ tall at the highest point. There will be a small weather sensor located near the equipment pad that will be about 10’ tall and about the size of a football.
We aim to improve the environment and leave the soil in an even better condition than its current status through responsible environmental management techniques and adherence to site management practices specified by Weld County.
At a minimum, we will plant native plants/pollinator habitat as ground cover, and we default to agricultural friendly vegetation management practices, such as animal grazing. This has the additional benefit of soil quality improvement over time. Soils will be kept intact beneath the PV panels. The panels will be installed on a low-profile racking system with no concrete footers. Once removed and properly decommissioned, the project leaves no trace, so the land can be used for original activities. Solar garden components are primarily inert (steel, aluminum, glass) and will not require extensive clean-up for any use once solar operations cease. All components will be recycled, repurposed, or removed from the property at the end of the project term.
PROJECT INFO
Solar + Pollinator Habitat
The land below the community solar gardens will be seeded with a pollinator-friendly grass mix. The meadow seed mix will introduce local grasses and wildflowers underneath and around the solar panels. This will enrich the soil beneath the panels, create pollinator habitat, increase biodiversity, and provide the local community with long-term environmental benefits.
