How Shared Solar Works

Shared solar, also called Community Based Renewable Energy (CBRE), is a program where customers can subscribe to participate in solar energy projects and receive solar bill credits, reducing the cost of their electric bills.
Projects on the island will provide clean, renewable energy and guaranteed savings to more than 600 households as well as local businesses.
Kihei, Maui
Project Snapshot

The Kihei projects are located within the yellow borders outlined in the image to the right, about one mile east of Pilani Highway, just south of the Lipoa Parkway extension. At a total size of 3 megawatts (MW), this project can provide clean, renewable energy to more than 600 households. By delivering solar energy to the utility's grid, these projects aim to offset residents’ and organizations' reliance on fossil fuels.
Based on archaeological and field studies, these projects are not expected to impact cultural activities, archaeological, or natural resources. However, we welcome comments from residents in the surrounding communities.
